Sandy Springs awards $50K in grants to nonprofits

A theater company, senior citizens center and Jewish music festival are among 11 beneficiaries of grants totaling $50,000 approved recently for local civic organizations by the Sandy Springs City Council.

Act 3 Productions was awarded $7,740 to support the production of three stage plays, according to the city. The Friends of Dorothy C. Benson Senior Multipurpose Complex received $5,000 to continue its Uber/Senior program. And the Atlanta Jewish Music Festival got $2,050 for a March 2017 Teen Battle of the Bands.

Other groups receiving grants were Am Yisrael Chai, Every Woman Works, Mary Hall Freedom House, Sandy Springs Education Force, Housing Initiative of North Fulton, Friends of North Springs High School, Sandy Springs Tennis Association and Los Niños Primero.

Twenty-one grant applications from local nonprofits were submitted for this year’s distribution. The qualify, an applicant had to be in good standing and located in Sandy Springs or substantially serving city residents.
