The Roswell Arts Fund has gotten the go-ahead from the city to set up a Public Art Selection Panel to seek, select and install artwork at Scott and Holcomb Bridge roads, a work that will be underwritten by a $40,000 developer’s donation.

The City Council approved the process in which the nonprofit Arts Fund, the official arts agency for the city, seeks “art of redeeming quality that enhances the aesthetic quality and experience of public spaces,” by commissioning a new work or acquiring an existing one, according to the Arts Fund’s proposal to the city.

The panel would determine whether to seek the art by an open entry – in which case a request for proposals would be distributed nationally through such networks as Americans for the Arts – by invitation to a limited number of artists or by direct selection of the artist of completed work.

The panel would be made up of members of the Roswell Arts Fund and representatives of the city, area homeowners associations and local businesses. At least one member would be an artist, and one, a conservator who would assess materials, design and siting as they relate to implementation and maintenance costs.
