Roswell has started construction of the Hardscrabble Green Loop, an 18-month, $5.8 million project to add trails, sidewalks, bicycle lanes and a roundabout along Hardscrabble Road between Roswell High School and Sweet Apple Elementary School.

Project plans call for a 10-foot multi-use path on the south side of Hardscrabble, a 5-foot sidewalk on the north side, and a 4-foot bike lane in the road between King and Etris roads. A new roundabout at Hardscrabble and Chaffin roads, replacing an existing traffic signal, also is planned.

Drivers may experience periodic delays when the road is temporarily closed for construction, officials said. Delays will be announced through Roswell’s social media channels and on message boards along Hardscrabble. Lane closures will be limited to 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on days when school is in session, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. when schools are off, officials said.

The Federal Highway Administration, Georgia Department of Transportation, Atlanta Regional Commission and city of Roswell are funding the work. The project is part of the Roswell Loop, which eventually will connect all city parks and schools with sidewalks and trails.
