Given the instability of a slope and the potential for additional rock slides, a section of Lake Forrest Drive in Sandy Springs will be closed indefinitely, city officials said.

The affected section of Lake Forrest is between Stewart and Maryeanna drives, just south of Interstate 285, officials said. Structural and geotechnical engineers who viewed the site are concerned about the condition of the street in that location.

To bypass the problem area, drivers heading south are asked to take Stewart to Roswell Road and Maryeanna back to Lake Forrest. Northbound motorists can take the same detour in reverse. “Drivers are asked to use extreme caution and maintain the posted speed limits along the detour routes,” the city said.

A section of Lake Forrest just south of this location was closed in February 2013 due to similar slope stability issues, and the street was closed for repairs for several months. Updates will be provided as additional information is available, officials said.
