A popular Stone Mountain-area seafood restaurant failed its recent health inspection after an official reported finding roaches and flies in the kitchen.

Red Snapper, located at 1131 North Hairston Road, received a 69/U on the inspection Wednesday, according to the inspector's report.

Manager Tony Awwad told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the restaurant is working to fix the problems.

"Hopefully on the next inspection won’t be a 69, it’ll be in the 90s,” he said Thursday.

He guaranteed the next inspection, expected to be conducted in the next 10 days, will be an improvement.

The restaurant received an 81 on its inspection in March, and a 78 a month earlier.

“Every store has issues," Awwad said, adding that Red Snapper has already been spraying for insects each month. "We’re on top of it.”

In addition to the insects near a kitchen sink, the inspector noted food storage issues and that the hand-washing sink didn't have soap.

The stove top had old French fries under the grate.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
