Police: Patient leaves hospital, steals car and leads chase before arrest

The man is now in jail facing felony charges.

A Gwinnett County man was jailed Tuesday after he escaped from a hospital room and led police on a chase in a stolen car, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Brycen Orr was a mental health patient on an involuntary hold when he allegedly walked out of Gwinnett Medical Center wearing only underwear and a hospital gown, then stole a car from a nearby neighborhood, Channel 2 reported.

The woman whose car Orr is accused of stealing called 911 from her home, a few blocks from the medical center.

“He was in my driveway; that's how quick it was,” she told 911. “He was in my driveway when I came out and, of course, I looked him right in the face and yelled ‘Stop!’ and he just kept going.”

She told the dispatcher a man without a shirt took her car and an officer quickly spotted the vehicle and turned on the sirens.

That’s when Orr sped down two-lane roads, nearly crossing into oncoming traffic, police told Channel 2.

Police said they suspected the driver of the stolen car was Orr so they backed off, catching up to Orr later when he parked in a car port with the reverse lights on.

Orr was jailed on multiple felony charges, Channel 2 reported.
