A Gwinnett County man is charged with aggravated animal cruelty after police say he shot and killed his neighbor’s cat.
Two people told Gwinnett County police they heard a gunshot coming from Allen Ray Duncan’s Buford home on April 13. When they looked into Duncan’s yard, they saw him holding a shotgun and approaching the cat, apparently checking whether it was dead, according to a police report.
The cat’s owner told police she had previously owned another cat that had gone missing and feared it had also been hurt by Duncan.
After inspecting the feline’s lifeless body, Duncan put the animal in a cardboard box, which he then put in his truck, the police report said. The neighbors who saw Duncan after he allegedly shot the cat told another neighbor, who is also a Norcross police sergeant.
The officer approached Duncan and told him he could not take the box with the cat’s body, and that the police had been called. As Duncan attempted to drive away with the dead cat in his truck bed, the officer grabbed the box from the vehicle, the police report said.
The officer and the other neighbors had not seen Duncan since the incident, the report said.
Duncan was arrested on April 14 and released on $11,200 bond.
