After a woman and her 3-month-old child were struck and killed by a vehicle in Woodstock, a local resident has started an online petition calling on the city to ensure crossing safety near the downtown performing arts center.

As of Sept. 18, Scott Bagwill’s Change.org petition had gotten more than 3,250 signatures. “Crosswalks Are Needed on Arnold Mill,” addressed to Woodstock Mayor Donnie Henriques, calls on the city to ensure “”ample crosswalks and better lighting added near the Northside Amphitheater to help people get across safely.”

Two Hurricane Irma evacuees, Kaitlin Hunt, 28, and her daughter Riley, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., were fatally injured the night of Sept. 9 when they were struck by an SUV on Arnold Mill Road. A family friend, Kathy Deming, 61, of Marietta was seriously injured.

“This area is extremely dark. Lights and safety should be a concern,” Mary Jo Sipes, of Canton, said on the petition website.
