The Peachtree Corners City Council voted recently to make it easier for residents and business owners to request fence height variances. Prior to this change, residential properties were limited to 4-foot fence heights in the front yard and 8-foot fence heights in side and rear yards. Occasionally, circumstances come up when a property’s front yard is directly adjacent to and surrounded by other properties’ side and rear yards. In this scenario, the first property’s front yard is limited to a 4-foot high fence, which could adjoin fences of up to 8 feet in height, leading to an inconsistent streetscape along the public right-of-way.

With this change the Peachtree Corners Director of Community Development will have the power to grant limited variances. Several conditions apply including residential fence heights can not exceed 10 feet and non-residental fence heights can not exceed 15 feet.

Any increase in residential fence height in the front yard, may not exceed two feet provided all the following conditions are met: The property requesting the increased height has a front yard directly adjoining the side and/or rear yard(s) of neighboring properties and the fence complies with all other zoning guidelines.
