A Peachtree City man faces misdemeanor animal cruelty charges after police say he shot and killed his four dogs Jan. 19.

Richard McAllister, 72, was arrested Jan. 21 after police got a tip that a resident of the Brander Pass neighborhood had canine bodies in trash bags on the property.

McAllister told police he shot his animals because he “could no longer care for them and could not find any other way to get rid of them,” according to the police report.

After police obtained a warrant, the dogs’ bodies were found in trash bags inside a 90-gallon dumpster in the backyard, the report said.

A jail official confirmed McAllister paid a bond and was released Jan. 22.
