Many patients are concerned about their medical futures after five area pain clinics closed with no warning this week, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Georgia Pain Physicians, PC shut down clinics in Ringgold, Calhoun, Gainesville, Forest Park and Marietta, the station reported.

Clinic founder Dr. Robert Windsor pleaded guilty earlier this year to federal charges of illegal billing, Channel 2 reported. Months later, the state suspended his medical license. He’s scheduled to be sentenced next month and could get 10 years in prison.

So when Andrea Marks couldn’t contact her doctor by phone or online, she went to the main office near Windy Hill Hospital, but found that it was closed, the station reported.

A note on the door offered no answers, only a fax number to request medical records, Channel 2 reported.

But patients have been unable to contact anyone from the offices, so they don’t know when they’ll get their records so they can continue treatments elsewhere.

“This new clinic won’t be able to see me,” Marks said. “I’ll be out of medication. I have a torn rotator cuff that needs to be operated on.

“I have degenerative joint disease. I had neck fusion in September, but it’s still going to hurt.”

The state website said the clinic’s license is good until next year.
