No one was home when a fire broke out in a DeKalb County house Tuesday evening.

The fire appeared to start in the garage of the home, located in the 1800 block of Quailwood Drive. Most of the damage was in the garage and kitchen area.

Shawn McBride told the AJC he had lived in the home since July 2009 with his wife and three children. The family did not have renters insurance, he said.

McBride said the house had electrical problems since a previous garage fire last year.

"Plug something in and short out the whole house," McBride said.
