The Cherokee County School Board has renewed a one-year partnership agreement with Northside Hospital Inc. that has the hospital donating $41,500 to the schools in exchange for the district naming Northside its exclusive health care provider.

The district also recognizes Northside as primary provider of health education by a third party through the hospital’s Junior Health Advocate Program.

Northside may, “in its sole discretion and upon the written request of the School Board or local school,” help coordinate the replenishment of health clinic supplies at schools; provide speakers, mentors and in-kind donations; and participate in middle school and high school career days and health awareness programs, the agreement says.

The hospital also may provide release time with pay to staff members to tutor and mentor at-risk students, and offer student internship opportunities for future Career/Technical Education “senior project” requirements, among other actions.

The Northside network consists of the original campus in Sandy Springs and facilities in Cherokee and Forsyth counties. A new Northside-Cherokee hospital is to open in 2017 at I-575 and Ga. 20, Canton.
