Smyrna police will have an easier time maneuvering through the crowds around SunTrust Park with two new smaller vehicles.

The Smyrna City Council voted Tuesday to buy two T3 Patrollers with $27,234 in forfeiture funds.

The three-wheeled electric vehicles also can be used by officers at many of the city’s events that attract large crowds such as Food Truck Tuesdays, the Jonquil Festival and road races.

Currently, the department has access to one multi-purpose “side-by-side” utility vehicle for use in crowded events.

The T3 Patroller will offer a 45-mile range battery at a lower cost than can be obtained with the Segway x2T Patroller with an extra battery.

The Segway unit would cost $33,856 compared to the T3 Patroller at $27,234 after contract savings of $3,480.
