Walkers, hikers and runners have a new path to travel in Sandy Springs.

The Windsor Parkway Pedestrian Bridge is complete, and it is open for foot traffic.

Sandy Springs hosted a ribbon cutting and a grand opening of the bridge on June 5 at 3 p.m. It is located at 835 Windsor Parkway.

The bridge’s purpose, says city spokeswoman Sharon Kraun, is to provide safety and connect nearby neighbors to area sidewalks. It is a brand new bridge and there was never one previously in this location .

The new bridge was built in Virginia and Colorado and was delivered in two pieces. It spans 83 feet, weighs 26,000 pounds and is constructed of weathering steel, which gives it a rusted finish. The final project, including landscaping and sidewalks, cost $385,000, and was funded through the city’s capital improvement project budget.

The project also includes adding a concrete sidewalk, curbs and gutters.

“The Windsor Parkway Pedestrian Bridge will enhance foot access to the future Windsor Meadows Park and other areas within the community,” Kraun said. “It’s an investment in the city’s commitment to multi-modal connectivity.”
