The Sandy Springs Police Department has a new officer, but he’s not one of the typical “boys in blue.”

He’s furry, has four legs and his nose is his best weapon.

Falco, a Belgian Malinois, has just completed his K-9 training and is ready for duty with the Sandy Springs police. He’ll be assisting in sniffing out drugs, criminals and keeping the residents of the city in north Fulton County safe.

The pup hails from Holland, according to Sergeant Sam Worsham, and is about one-and-a-half years old.

Sandy Springs police expect Falco to give them seven to eight years of service before he retires to the life of a pet.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
