Forsyth County officials officially opened the new Fire Station 8 serving the northeast part of the county with a hose-uncoupling ceremony on Friday.

Fire Chief Danny Bowman said the new facility is a vast improvement over its much smaller 1984-era predecessor which was built by volunteers. He said the former station was meant only to house one fire truck and wasn’t designed for 24-hour operation. Its replacement is a 4-stall facility and is designed to allow for future growth and development.

Officials said the former station was razed before construction started. To maintain coverage, crews from there spent a year or so housed at a nearby Dawson County fire station. The new Station 8 at 6015 Keith Bridge Road was funded by SPLOST money and impact fees.
