A 24-year-old Tattnall County woman faces murder and child cruelty charges in connection with her son’s death, the GBI said Monday.

Jamie Lee Camacho is accused of leaving her 3-year-old, Jakob Camacho, in a car July 28 outside the family’s home in Reidsville.

Tattnall County is about 200 miles southeast of Atlanta and about 70 miles west of Savannah.

The mother called police about 7 p.m. and reported the boy missing, according to the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office. Aid was rendered and EMS responded for medical treatment, but the boy was pronounced dead, GBI officials said.

An autopsy was performed at the GBI Crime Lab in Savannah and an investigation is ongoing.

Camacho is being held at the Tattnall County Jail.
