More than 1,600 Gwinnett County homes are without power Friday after intense Thursday night storms, Georgia EMC said.

The vast majority of those homes are Georgia EMC customers. Fewer than 25 Georgia Power customers were without power at 10 a.m. Friday, according to an outage map.

The 1,637 EMC customers represent 2.37 percent of the 69,111 EMC customers in Gwinnett County.

Thursday’s thunderstorms had high wind speeds and heavy rain, tearing down trees and power lines. Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services responded to 14 downed trees and 29 downed wires during the Thursday night storm, but a spokesman said he is not aware of any that are still blocking traffic. Firefighters responded to more than 100 calls during the storms.
