Missing woman found dead at Lake Allatoona

A woman reported missing Sunday after her jet ski was located floating at Lake Allatoona was found dead Monday afternoon.

Letrise Ross-Praytor body was found about 2 p.m. Monday in 4 feet of water, Cherokee County sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said.

The 49-year-old left the Webster Ferry boat ramp near Red Top Mountain about 10 a.m. Sunday and was supposed to return to the area about 1 p.m., Baker said.

About 5 p.m., Ross-Praytor’ jet ski was found near a small island not far from Harbor Town Marina on Lake Allatoona, Baker said. She was nowhere to be found and her family contacted authorities.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia State Patrol helicopter unit and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers assisted Cherokee sheriff’s and fire officials in the search, Baker said.

An autopsy will be performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Baker said, but no foul play is suspected.
