The Milton City Council has agreed to again work with Lionheart School Inc. to seek grant money to go towards the operation of a summer day camp for young people with developmental disabilities and special needs.

Lionheart, of Alpharetta, acts as fiscal agent for the city’s efforts to obtain funding for Camp Joyful Soles. It obtained $12,000 for the program in 2016. The new agreement approved by the City Council is nearly identical to last year’s, with a language change that allows the agreement to be automatically renewed on an annual basis, according to a staff report.

Available grant money cannot be awarded directly to a municipality, and terms of the grant require a nonprofit serving a special needs population to be involved.

Camp Joyful Soles is a seven-week summer camp for young men and women, with mild disabilities, between the ages of 13 and 21. Activities include swimming, arts and crafts, games and field trips.
