The Milton City Council has approved a lease agreement to use the baseball field at Birmingham United Methodist Church.

The agreement is with Ron Landy, the primary lease holder with trustees of the church, 15770 Birmingham Highway, Alpharetta, according to an agenda memo to the council by Jim Cregge, director of Milton Parks and Recreation.

“The lease will grant the city access to the field in an arrangement which is shared with Mr. Landy,” Cregge said. “We will be the only entity which Mr. Landy will offer a lease to. In addition to the lease, the city will make a series of small improvements to the parking area, the netting and other minor field improvements.”

According to the lease, the field may be used from 5 to 10 p.m. weeknights, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 10 p.m. Sundays, with no games or practices before 1 p.m. Sundays, nor during Holy Week (Palm Sunday-Easter Sunday).

Initial lease rental is $20,000 a year. Milton also agreed to invest up to $5,000 to renovate the irrigation system if it can be restored to functioning status.

The lease begins Jan. 1 and automatically renews annually for up to four additional one-year terms.
