Milton has again extended its moratorium on accepting conceptual plans for development for land along Ga. 9 from the Alpharetta city limits to the Forsyth County line.

The latest extensions approved by the City Council run through March 7, 2017. One resolution applies to subdivisions within the Five Acre Road Zone, and the other, to projects outside the zone. The Council had adopted emergency, 30-day moratoriums Aug. 15, and subsequently extended them to Dec. 6.

The Council has asked the Community Development Department to consider changes to the overall development pattern along Ga. 9 from residential to non-residential uses, and intends to consider amendments to its zoning ordinance codifying the change, according to the resolutions.

Ga. 9 is supposed to become Milton’s commercial corridor, but city officials this summer realized their existing, form-based codes allow high-density residential uses like townhouses to be developed facing the highway.
