Mega Millions, Powerball payouts now near $1B

The Mega Millions has its next drawing Friday night.

The Powerball and Mega Millions lottery jackpots are growing so much that they are entering new territory.

The jackpot for Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot rose Thursday from $418 million to $445 million, Georgia Lottery officials said.

And because no one won Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, that jackpot now is at $550 million.

This is the first time both jackpots have topped $400 million at the same time, according to CNBC.

Obviously, no one has cashed in the big prize on either game for awhile.

The top Powerball prize has been growing since Oct. 28 and has rolled 20 times, officials said. The Mega Millions jackpot has been growing since Oct. 17 and has rolled 23 times, according to Georgia Lottery officials.

The next Mega Millions drawing is at 11 p.m. Friday, and Powerball’s next drawing is at the same time Saturday. People can watch both drawings live before Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat.
