R. Eric Clarkson, Chamblee mayor since 2005, is the only incumbent facing a challenge in this year’s city election. Van Pappas, a financial planner and founder of the city’s chamber of commerce will square off against Clarkson for mayor on Nov. 7.

The other two city council seats are unopposed. District One’s John Mesa and At-Large member Brian Mock, both elected in Nov. 2013, are ensured second terms.

Clarkson and Pappas are both veteran residents having lived in Chamblee 22 and 17 years respectively. Clarkson served three years on the city’s Architectural Review Board and four years on the council before his initial election as mayor.

Chamblee’s governing board is comprised of a mayor and five council members.
