A U.S. Marshal was injured Friday after a fugitive pinned him between two cars. And that man remains on the run.

According to U.S. Marshal Supervisory Inspector Jim Joyner, the officer and other undercover agents arrived at a business along West Whitehall Street in southwest Atlanta in a silver van. The officer got out of the van and confronted the fugitive, Shusta Gumbs, 38, who pinned the officer against another car, Joyner said.

Gumbs drove off, hitting a second car, then ditched the car at another location, Joyner said. Gumbs had a warrant out for his arrest in Douglas County after he failed to appear in court on weapons and narcotics charges.

Officials found Gumbs’ car, but they are still searching for him.

The marshal was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with an injured right leg. His name and condition were not released.

A bystander was also taken to the hospital, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Gumbs is asked to call the U. S. Marshals at 770-508-2500, or Crimestoppers at 404-577-8477.
