A jury on Tuesday convicted a Douglas County man of murdering his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.

Shawn Clark of Union City will serve life in prison for fatally shooting 28-year-old Antonio Ellison in 2015, Assistant District Attorney Deah Warren said in a news release.

Clark, who was 29 at the time, was dating Kira McClure on Nov. 14, 2015, when he drove her to Ellison's home so she could see the children she had with Ellison, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

After Ellison slapped Clark, he retaliated and shot Ellison three times, including once in the back of the head, Warren said. Clark was arrested about eight hours later in Union City.

“Though the verdict cannot bring Antonio Ellison back, I pray this verdict brings the family some degree of peace and closure,” Warren said.
