Lawrenceville police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for an attempted break-in at a gun shop in June.

Brandon Chaney has been charged with four counts of entering an auto, two counts of loitering and prowling and one count each of burglary and theft by taking.

Chaney stole a backhoe and used it in an attempt to break in to Bulls-Eye Indoor Range and Gun Shop, police said. An officer responded to the noise of the backhoe "chopping away" at the store's facade early on the morning of June 18.

When Chaney saw the officer arrive, he abandoned the backhoe and ran away, according to a police report. The officer did not pursue Chaney.

The officer saw that the gun shop’s door had also been hacked away at with an ax, the police report said. Neither the backhoe or the ax caused enough damage to allow anyone to enter the store.

Chaney is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
