The DeKalb County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People announced the resignation of longtime leader John Evans in an email late Monday.

The news came after the branch sent a press release via email mentioning Teresa Hardy as its new president.

“I am writing to inform you that President John Evans has resigned as NAACP DeKalb County Branch President effective July 16, 2016 to focus on his non-profit organization, ‘Operations Lead,’ ” Hardy wrote.

Evans had been president of the chapter for 16 years.

According to constitution bylaws, Hardy, formerly first vice president, becomes president, second vice president Cherry Willis becomes first vice president and third vice president Zepora Roberts becomes second vice president.

Evans has not been reached for comment.
