Lightning struck a Snellville home Thursday night, setting it on fire while a teenager was home.

The teenage boy found smoke in the one-story wooden home’s bonus room, and then found flames in the attic. He took some of the family pets, got out of the house and called 911.

Firefighters responded to the Rosebud Drive home at 7 p.m., a Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said. There were active flames in the attic which the firefighters doused. The blaze caused extensive damage to the attic, as well as smoke and water damage to the living space.

Two dogs were removed from the house by firefighters. They were not injured, nor was the teenage boy. The residents of the home have been temporarily displaced by the fire.
