Lawrenceville Mayor Judy Johnson’s look to the future at the State of the City address highlighted plans to invest close to $100 million in city funds for public projects including the $12 million two-way conversion of Perry and Clayton streets, and traffic congestion relief on Scenic Highway and Jackson Street. The city also plans to begin construction of a 2.2-mile linear park along the College Corridor between Georgia Gwinnett College and the Historic Downtown District for an estimated cost of $33 million.

The city will continue its investment of more than $22 million to upgrade its gas infrastructure. It is also working to acquire property, design plans and begin construction of a new $20 million public works facility along Pike St. The city will also invest just under $4 million in roadway, sidewalk and drainage improvements along Park Place.

In other plans, Lawrenceville will launch a new website and new marketing materials to promote the city. The city will also invest more than $250,000 in just over 30 community-focused events planned for the Downtown Square in 2017.

In addition to the projects the city is funding itself, Lawrenceville will also receive direct investments of $1 billion from projects taking place over the next five years, including a Lawrenceville Lawn mixed-use project on 40 acres one block from the Historic Square , and a Aurora Theatre expansion to include a new 550+ seat theatre, parking deck, and GGC classroom space. The mayor also noted the city will benefit from the Gwinnett County Courthouse expansion, the state’s new DCFS Facility, a Gwinnett Medical Center expansion, and the redevelopment of the old Lawrenceville High School property.
