Lawrenceville’s mayor and City Council approved a $182-million budget Aug. 7 for the 2017/18 fiscal year (September through August). This vote comes on the heels of the council’s decision to reduce the city’s tax rate and makes Lawrenceville’s budget one of the largest municipal budgets in metro Atlanta.

The vote was made at the recommendation of staff and with significant input from the city’s newly formed Financial Citizen’s Review Committee.

“The adoption of this budget will allow us to continue our focus on a strong public safety operation as well as support enhanced services for our businesses and residents with new and improved infrastructure improvements and new facilities for those workers who provide electric, gas, fleet and sanitation services,” said Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson.

Additional investments include technology improvements for safety and efficiency in customer service, the preparation and updating of guiding documents like the city’s ordinances and comprehensive plan that direct daily operation and business development in the community, and the continued expansion and growth of the city’s community engagement and event programs for residents and visitors.
