A 92-year-old man was killed Sunday in a house fire, DeKalb County officials said.

One of the five people in the house in the 700 block of Medlock Road became entrapped, according to the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department. The man, identified Tuesday as Harold Smith by the Medical Examiner’s office, was freed, taken to a hospital and later died, officials said.

The cause of death is pending but likely was due to smoke inhalation, according to deputy chief medical Investigator Kyle McGlamery.

Two other people suffered minor injuries, and two refused treatment, fire officials said. A dog also died in the fire.

Officials don’t know how the blaze started.
