Kid Rock in court

Kid Rock was in a DeKalb court fighting a civil trial stemming from an October 2007 brawl at a Waffle House.

Robert James Ritchie, also known as Kid Rock, testifies on Thursday in a civil trial in Decatur in which a man claims Ritchie and members of his entourage beat him during an early-morning fight at a Waffle House in October 2007.

Kid Rock watches video evidence Thursday while on the stand. The lawsuit against him was filed by Harlen Akins.

Kid Rock is fighting a civil lawsuit brought by former music promoter Harlan Akins. The Decatur native says he was beaten by Ritchie's entourage and seeks damages from the celebrated hick-hopper.

Five people who were with Kid Rock the night of the fight are also being sued. George Vourvoulias, one of the defendants, listens while the plaintiff's attorney plays the 911 recording from the night of the fight.

Kid Rock was sentenced to 12 months probation and anger management after pleading no contest in the criminal case.

The defense likely will present its case sometime Wednesday, with Kid Rock expected to testify.

All but two of the prospective jurors said they were familiar with Kid Rock.
