In support of Stockbridge in Henry County and the Georgia Municipal Association, the Kennesaw City Council is urging Georgia lawmakers to oppose the creation of new cities.

Specifically, a number of bills have been introduced in the General Assembly which would de-annex large portions of the city of Stockbridge to create a new city of Eagle’s Landing, according to Stockbridge officials.

“This would have a devastating impact on the city of Stockbridge, taking away nearly 45 percent of the city’s acreage and an estimated 58 percent of the city’s operating revenue,” according to a letter signed by the Stockbridge City Council.

“This unprecedented legislation is not just a local matter only of concern to Henry County and the Stockbridge area. This could set a very dangerous precedent for every municipality in the State of Georgia and could potentially pit cities against each other, breaking up long-standing communities,” the letter said.

Also, the entire GMA membership is supporting this position in the GMA 2018 legislative policies - except to allow new cities by vote of the affected City Council or a vote of the city’s residents.

Stockbridge officials are asking Georgia cities to continue to support their efforts by adopting a resolution reaffirming the vote that was taken by the GMA membership in June 2017.
