The puppy population will increase in Johns Creek.

But these pups won’t be for folks to play with. The dogs will be too busy protecting the city and its residents.

On Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Johns Creek Police Department will host the grand opening of its new K-9 training facility at 7225 Bell Road. Surrounding jurisdictions will be available to train their K-9s there as well.

Johns Creek police say the training center was built using funds raised by a partnership with Leadership Johns Creek and construction didn’t cost the citizens of Johns Creek. The Atlanta Retailers Association was the primary donor and its name will appear on the facility.

Prior to the opening of the facility, Johns Creek K-9 officers relied on private and commercial property owners who would donate space for them to train.

Johns Creek police are inviting everyone to the grand opening. There will be K-9 demonstrations of how the handlers will use the facility to train the dogs.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
