The Johns Creek City Council has approved a $150,000 task order for engineering services to widen State Bridge Road from four to six lanes from Medlock Bridge Road to the Chattahoochee River.
Michael Baker International will handle surveying and engineering and prepare construction drawings for the 0.6-mile section of State Bridge, including two bridges over the Chattahoochee, according to a staff report to the council. The road handles 49,625 vehicles a day, well above its design capacity of 35,820 vehicles.
State Bridge is a Tier I priority project of the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax approved by Fulton County voters in November 2016. A total of $300,000 is earmarked for engineering out of an overall budget of $4 million.
Johns Creek Public Works is coordinating with Gwinnett County, expected to widen Pleasant Hill Road on its side of the Chattahoochee to six lanes from the Johns Creek city limits to McClure Bridge Road. Michael Baker is also working for Gwinnett on the Pleasant Hill project.
“Prior to beginning the design phase of the State Bridge Road widening project, staff will reach out to the property owners along the route for input as well as meet with the Amersee Lakes HOA,” staff said. “This public input will be used to fine tune the design and prepare the concept for incorporation into engineering design by the consultant.”
