Johns Creek is to know Wednesday, June 20, whether it has won the Best Practices Award in Amazon’s 2018 “City on a Cloud Innovation Challenge,” officials announced.

The city is a finalist in the category for its development of a municipal Amazon Alexa skill.

Johns Creek officials said theirs is the first city in the world to use open data with Alexa; the app pulls information from the city’s website and DataHub to answer users’ questions.

Users can ask Alexa to find out information such as where police and fire activity has occurred, current traffic conditions, and the zoning of any property in the city, officials said.

Johns Creek is going up against such competitors as the cities of Las Vegas, Tallahassee and Louisville and the North Carolina State Board of Elections. City on a Cloud winners will be announced Wednesday at the Amazon Web Services Public Sector Summit in Washington.
