Johns Creek has set an Oct. 21 ribbon cutting for the new, synthetic turf lacrosse field at Newtown Park.

The city is converting two fields at Newtown, and the sports field at Shakerag Park, from natural grass to synthetic turf. “The new turf fields allow upcoming sports seasons to occur with minimal disruption and will enable leagues to increase their playtime in conditions that would have otherwise been lost to rain,” officials said.

The main soccer field at Newtown and sports field at Shakerag are expected to be completed in November, officials said. The installation follows the same specifications and regulations used by the Fulton County schools.

The city hired the school district’s contractor, Field Turf USA Inc., to install synthetic turf at its three fields at a cost not to exceed $2 million. The work is funded by a parks bond approved by voters in November 2016.
