The Johns Creek City Council has approved moving the State Bridge Road widening project to the “right of way” phase, with land acquisition expected to cost $300,000.

State Bridge is to be widened from four to six lanes from the Whole Foods entrance south of Medlock Bridge Road, to the Chattahoochee River and the Gwinnett County line, with a pedestrian bridge over the Chattahoochee.

Five land acquisitions will be necessary, Public Works Director Lynette Baker said in an agenda report. “In each case, only a portion or strip of land will be needed, not the entire property,” Baker said.

Johns Creek has accepted a $1.5 million reimbursable grant from the State Road and Tollway Authority’s Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank, and has an intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett, which will continue the project as the widening of Pleasant Hill Road south of the river to McClure Bridge Road.

The Johns Creek portion is to be funded by the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST). Information: https://bit.ly/2PNfWF1
