A Cobb County location of a local Irish pub chain failed its recent health inspection.

Update:

An Irish pub in Kennesaw has passed its reinspection by the county health department after being cited for having flies in the kitchen and dining area.

Keegan’s Public House passed its Monday health check with a 97/A, according to a report the restaurant provided.

The inspector noted some crumbs in the freezer and employee drinks throughout the kitchen.

The new report did not note an issue with pests.

“We will continue to serve award winning food in the Kennesaw community as we have been for 10 years,” McCaffery said in an email.

A Cobb County location of a north metro Atlanta chain of Irish pubs failed its health inspection Tuesday.

The Keegan's Public House at 1625 Ridenhour Boulevard NW in Kennesaw earned a score of 67/U. Any score below a 69 is considered failing.

Plates with debris on them were stored as clean, out-of-date food and flies in the kitchen and dining area were all noted on the health check summary.

In regards to the flies, the inspector left a less-than-subtle note on the report: “SEEK A PEST CONTROL TECHNICIAN IMMEDIATELY!!!”

Pete McCaffery, regional manager of all four Keegan’s locations, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday that a pest professional would be starting a new regiment at the Kennesaw eatery the next day.

He said the source of the flies is a window that opens out to the patio.

“It’s summertime in Atlanta, patio seating and having an open window … is an ongoing battle. It’s tough,” he said.

The inspector also noted that none of the lights under the stove were working.

“We had a huge water leak in the ceiling, which caused a bunch of electrical issues up top,” McCaffery said.

As for the dirty plates stored as clean, those were immediately washed on-site, according to the report. There were also chickpeas and grits found a week past their expiration date; they were discarded.

“We take it seriously ... we’ll have it up to code quickly here,” McCaffery said.

During its last four inspections dating back to January 2014, the restaurant has maintained a score of a B. It's most recent health check listed was in September.

Follow-up inspections are usually done within 10 days of the original evaluation.
