A bid to annex property into the Clayton County city of Lovejoy was rejected by Henry County officials.

The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution at a recent called meeting opposing an annexation request by the city of Lovejoy. The county received notice March 29 from the south Clayton County city of its desire to annex about 400 acres of Henry County property into the city.

Annexations in general are not all that unusual, but those that cross county lines are, according to county officials. The county requested a meeting between the two municipalities, and after that the commissioners met to make their decision.

A statement released by the county stated that “the annexation of the property into the City of Lovejoy would be detrimental to the county and the health, safety and welfare of the county and its citizens.”
