Gwinnett Commissioners voted recently to execute intergovernmental agreements with Braselton to use joint 2017 SPLOST funds for a pedestrian safety project on State Route 211/Old Winder Highway. The project will add a multi-use tunnel to become part of the LifePath multi-use trail installed by Braselton’s Community Improvement District.

Braselton will manage this project. The county will reimburse the town for 81 percent of the total project cost up to a maximum of $225,197. Braselton will be responsible for the remaining 19 percent. The estimated cost includes all items necessary to complete a typical, complex transportation project, including design, right-of-way acquisition and related professional services, and construction.

The exact location of the tunnel hasn’t been determined, but it will be in the Gwinnett portion of town along Highway 211. Braselton is coordinating all construction with GDOT and hopes to begin soon.
