Gwinnett County has partially activated its Emergency Operations Center as the county and much of metro Atlanta remains under tornado watch and a severe thunderstorm warning.

Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services has already responded to a fallen tree and downed wires in Snellville, Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

The Gwinnett County emergency management office is monitoring the weather, and other county departments are prepared to report to the Emergency Operations Center if needed, said Heather Sawyer, a county spokeswoman. The Gwinnett County Police Department and Fire and Emergency Services have both activated “war rooms” to monitor the weather and volume of emergency calls, Sawyer said.

Police departments across the county, including Lawrenceville and Lilburn, have said they have not made any changes in operations due to weather yet, but are monitoring the situation.

Meteorologist Karen Minton has your early Wednesday morning weather forecast.
