A Gwinnett County man is awaiting extradition to Alabama on a murder charge after a Lawrenceville woman was found dead in a hotel.

Police found the body of Tiara Cole, 22, of Lawrenceville, in a Quality Inn in Decatur, Alabama, on Saturday, July 22. She had been shot in the hotel room, police said.

Cole’s family told Decatur police that Cole had gone to Alabama with Carey Davis, Jr. Gwinnett County sheriff’s deputies located the car Cole’s parents said Davis and Cole traveled to Alabama in.

Davis was arrested on charges of theft by receiving and loitering or prowling in Gwinnett County late on the evening of July 22. He “immediately invoked his right to counsel due to his involvement in an altercation in Decatur, Alabama,” according to the Decatur Police Department.

A warrant for Davis’ arrest on the murder charge has been issued. His bond in Alabama has been set at $250,000. He is expected to have an extradition hearing this week.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
