Gwinnett to discuss hazard mitigation plan update

The Gwinnett County Office of Emergency Management will conduct an orientation meeting for the public and stakeholders on its upcoming Hazard Mitigation Plan at 2 p.m. July 13 at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.

Attendees will receive an overview of the hazard mitigation planning process and can make recommendations to be included in the update. The Federal Emergency Management Agency requires five-year updates to the plan to be eligible for federal funding that can be used for planning and capital projects. The plan addresses problems like extreme flooding or other catastrophic events.

The Gwinnett Office of Emergency Management is a unit of the Gwinnett Police Department and handles tasks such as planning for emergencies and disasters, coordinating responses to incidents, directing hazard mitigation, and assisting Gwinnett county government and its residents in recovery after an incident.
