Gas prices may drop soon as pipeline reopens

Metro Atlanta’s second brush with gasoline disruptions in two months appears to be ending.

Alpharetta-based Colonial Pipeline said Saturday that it expects its damaged pipeline, which was affected Monday by an explosion in Shelby County, Ala., to restart Sunday afternoon.

“All product was removed from the affected segment of pipe yesterday evening,” the statement read. “Excavation operations commenced shortly thereafter and continue this morning. Once excavation is complete, the affected segment of pipe will be removed and a new segment will be tested and installed. Based upon the latest information, we continue to project a Sunday afternoon restart of Line 1.”
