Milton is warning its residents about predators that could be preying on pets.

Coyotes were recently spotted in the city, and those reporting weren’t referring to seeing Wile E. and the Roadrunner on television.

A Milton resident told police she saw two coyotes in her backyard Monday around 2 p.m. near Cogburn and Francis roads. Other residents reported hearing pack noises between Potterstone Glen and Country Ridge subdivisions.

Some residents have reported that their cats have gone missing. Several Milton residents commented on a City of Milton Facebook post saying they had seen coyotes recently too.

Milton officials advise residents to contact a nuisance wildlife trapper from a list provided by  the state Department of Natural Resources. The DNR suggests that residents bring their pets in at night and put up fencing for small animals that must remain outdoors.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
