Forsyth County’s Voter Registrations and Elections department officials will be getting a new, combined and more efficient home.

County commissioners recently awarded a $3.15 million contract to CBI General Contractors of Cumming to build a 20,000 square-foot building near the county tax commissioner’s office on Tribble Gap Road. Elections Administrator Barbara Luth says it will bring together two currently separate offices, one in the county administration building on East Main, the other a warehouse and overflow facility on Piney Grove Road several miles away. Luth said the new facilities will cut out the need for back-and-forth between the two and lead to more efficient election planning and execution.

Luth said groundbreaking ceremony for the facility is set for spring.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
