Forsyth County election board officials plan to hold a hearing at the group’s May meeting involving about 100 people whose voter registrations don’t match up with records kept by the county’s mapping staff.

Elections administrator Barbara Luth says the apparent discrepancies involve cases where a voter may be listed at a property that has been torn down or changed from a residence to a business location. She says county staffers have been using such tools as Google Earth, flyovers, site visits and letters to voters whose address records don’t square and have been able to reduce the property and registration confusion cases from 300 to the 100 number.

Luth said trying to square such discrepancies is a normal part of what the department does in off-election years. She said if the voters in question don’t respond to queries about whether they still live at a location by the elections board’s May meeting, they can be stricken from the rolls. She says the problem cases represent only a small percentage of the county’s 142 thousand registered voters.
